Magnificat Maternal Health Project Brings Medical Supplies to Nigeria

In March, Dr. Mary Davenport, the medical director of the Magnificat Maternal Health Project, went on a medical mission trip to health care institutions in the Diocese of Idah, Nigeria. The major focus of the Magnificat Maternal Health Project is maternal mortality. Rural Nigerian women have a one in thirteen risk of dying in childbirth. Before leaving, she visited MedShare’s Western Region in San Leandro and picked up 50 pounds of medical supplies to bring to the Grimard Hospital in Anyigba and the diocesan clinic in Idah, which is being upgraded into a birth center.

While there, Dr. Davenport also attended the re-opening of the Grimard Catholic School of Midwifery, as well as providing educational equipment and suturing supplies. The supplies from MedShare were very much appreciated by their recipients!
