Today, Tuesday, December 10, 2009 a 40 foot container full of valuable medical supplies and equipment was shipped from MedShare’s Southeastern Region to ST. JUDE HOSPITAL in the small island country of ST. LUCIA in the West Indies . A special thank you goes out to Food for the Poor for generously providing in-kind shipping for this project.
This is MedShare’s second container to St. Jude Hospital; the first was sent in May of 2007. Tragically, in September 2009, the hospital experienced a terrible fire which destroyed the entire surgical wing, and the staff has since been operating out of a local stadium. Below is a photo of the aftermath.
MedShare was able to load over 1,000 individual pieces of medical supplies and equipment on this container, including: a whirlpool to be used for hydrotherapy treatments for burn patients, surgical steel instruments, a ventilator for providing life-support to patients in intensive care, an autoclave, a defibrillator, a computer, printer, and other office equipment, surgical sponges, surgical scrub, and much more!
