Good Shepherd Hospital in Swaziland

Good Shepherd Hospital in Swaziland

This morning, Thursday, April 29, 2010, a 40-foot container of medical donations destined for SWAZILAND was shipped out of MedShare’s Southeastern Regional Distribution Center in Decatur, Georgia.  The container holds over 1,600 individual boxes, weighing a total of almost 20,000 lbs!  All of the medical supplies were procured by the healthcare supply chain management company MEDASSETS, and  include hospital blankets, bandages, exam gloves, surgical gloves, laboratory tests, primary IV sets, and much more.  The medical supplies will be used both by hospital staff at GOOD SHEPHERD HOSPITAL in Siteki, Swaziland as well as by members of a medical mission team from the international charity organization HEART FOR AFRICA.  According to the Heart for Africa website, “Swaziland is a country of just under one million people and the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world at 42.6%. Some estimate that there are as many as 200,000 orphaned and vulnerable children in Swaziland.”

We deeply thank the dedicated people at MedAssets, Heart for Africa, and Good Shepherd Hospital for their service helping the poor and destitute families in Swaziland, and we hope the supplies on the MedShare container will support them in these noble efforts.  Special thanks to John Bardis, Rand Ballard, Wayne Clark, Nancy Santee and all of the MedAssets team for their passion and support of projects like Heart For Africa and MedShare.
