Aiding Hospital Turned Trauma Center in Haiti

Monday, May 10, 2010, MedShare’s Southeastern Regional Distribution center shipped out a truckload of medical supplies and equipment for HOPITAL BIENFAISANCE DE PIGNON in Pignon, Haiti.  This is the MedShare’s second container shipment to this hospital; the first shipped in January 2010 just a few short weeks after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti.  In normal circumstances, this is a small charity hospital with about 65 in-patient beds.  Since the earthquake, thousands of injured patients have flooded through the hospital doors seeking emergency care, and the hospital has been converted into a regional trauma center.

The 1,000-plus pieces of medical supplies and equipment were individually selected by the doctors at the hospital, and include: 4 Dell laptop computers, 2 electric beds, 1 electrosurgical unit, 1 OR table, 1 ultrasound, 28 aluminum walkers, 2 wheelchairs, 15 overbed tables, 2 exam tables, and hundreds of boxes of disposables such as gauze, tubing, drapes, masks, gloves and more.

Rotary International sponsored this donation.  Special thanks to Rotarian Mr. Nathan Carmack, Dr. Jean Jumeau Batsch, and Dr. Theodore Guy for all their help.  Please visit the Hopital Biengaisance de Pignon website and blog for photos, videos, and facts about this hospital.
