On Tuesday, April 12, our Western Region hosted its Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. Volunteers received awards recognizing their service achievements this year, and a wonderful Ethiopian meal was enjoyed.
As part of the luncheon, we hosted a guest speaker. Kidist, a nurse in Nejo, Ethiopia, shared her work with the group, as well as her efforts to sponsor a container shipment.
“I came as a volunteer with my company and I had a life changing experience. I think it is awesome that MedShare provides medical supplies to developing countries across the globe. Just hearing the tragic stories made me feel sad but actually having an opportunity to make a difference in my life. I plan to go back and volunteer as an individual. I encourage other companies to get their employees out there to volunteer. Volunteering as a team is a great team building activity and it very rewarding to see the effect on the lives of people around the world.”
16 of our volunteers received Presidential Volunteer Service Awards:
- 5 Silver with 250+ hours this year
- 1 Young Adult Silver
- 11 Bronze with 100+ hours this year
We also honored some of our corporate partners who sent representatives– Kaiser Permanente, Owens and Minor, Triage Consulting – plus Samuel Merritt University that has made volunteering at MedShare part of their nursing school curriculum.
Thanks to all of the staff that made this event a success – especially to Terry Monday and Tierney Haupt for their commitment to making each and every volunteer experience a meaningful one.
