A 40-foot container filled with medical humanitarian aid destined for Kenya was loaded and shipped out of MedShare’s Southeastern Regional Distribution Center yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, April 19, 2011. The medical supplies in the container were selected by Volunteer International Community Development (VICDA), a Nairobi-based NGO that serves families who were displaced from their homes after post-presidential election violence in 2008. VICDA received one previous container from MedShare in 2009 and shortly after that MedShare staff was able to tour their operations in Nairobi and see how the donated supplies and equipment had been put to use serving the local people. See below for some photos taken during that visit:
Over 1,000 boxes of medical supplies and equipment were loaded on the container yesterday, including:
- a fetal monitor
- electrosurgical unit
- blood pressure monitors
- a patient warmer
- patient gowns
- much more!
VICDA will distribute the donated items amongst several local hospitals and clinics that treat the IDP families and are in desperate need of more supplies and equipment to serve their mission.
Many thanks to Irene Ngatia and Lindsey Barber for their collaborative efforts to make this humanitarian aid shipment happen!
