First Lady of Niger visits MedShare!

On May 18, Aissata Issoufou Mahandou, First Lady of Niger, a trained chemist, mining specialist, and founder of the Guri – Making Life Better foundation, toured MedShare’s Decatur office to address urgent health needs in Niger, a French-speaking nation in West Africa. The First Lady traveled with a delegation of ten persons, including the Ambassador of Niger to the U.S., a medical advisor, and a camera crew from a Nigerian television network.

After learning about MedShare, Mrs. Aissata Issoufou Mahamadou was eager to visit our distribution center and hopes to mobilize her influence to send humanitarian aid to treat those suffering in Niger through partnering with MedShare to ship containers to healthcare facilities within the nation.

“As organizer of this visit, I am convinced that a partnership with MedShare will enable the First Lady to upgrade and impact the delivery of healthcare in Niger. With 110 deaths per 1,000 live births, the healthcare needs are unbelievable,” says Nell Diallo, MedShare’s Vice President of Corporate and International Relations.

Through her foundation, Mrs. Aissata Issoufou Mahamadou aims to assist the most vulnerable populations in Niger by increasing health, education, and environmental awareness. Holding the highest fertility rate in the world, 7.1 children are born per woman, putting an exorbitant pressure on natural resources. Since it’s launch in 2011, Guri – Making Life Better has made significant progress in the protection of mothers and children against HIV/AIDS, created more accessible education and training opportunities for girls, and continues to raise consciousness of the ongoing fight against deforestation and desertification.

The First Lady’s visit was both effective and moving. Mrs. Aissata was in awe upon viewing our warehouse, and expressed her gratitude and excitement of a partnership moving forward with MedShare.ImageImage
