Building upon the success of last year’s event, MedShare’s New York Regional Council hosted our second annual Share The Good Benefit at the University Club this past Monday, November 12th. The event featured a cocktail hour, dinner, and guest speaker Monsignor George Kwame Kumi, the Vicar General of Sunyani Diocese in Ghana.
Several years ago, through the combined efforts of New York Council members Sandy Tytel and her very determined daughter Jennifer Tytel, John Feerick, Dennis Lynch, and the Giving to Ghana Foundation, MedShare was given the opportunity to ship a full container of medical supplies and equipment to St. Matthews Medical Clinic in Ampenkro, Ghana. Included on the container were 18 hospital beds, an electrosurgical unit, examination table, blood pressure machines, ambu bags, bandages, crutches, wheelchairs, surgical masks, gloves, and much more.
Monsignor George told us how the clinic was built, but it was empty. The supplies sent by MedShare made it possible for them to care for the people living in the community. Before receiving the shipment, they had nothing. He told a story of a cesarean procedure where they lost power, and had to complete the surgery using the combined lights from medical personnel’s mobile phones. MedShare supplies have had a huge impact on his community and quality of life of patients served.
The event highlighted our successes in expansion efforts to the Tri-State area, and served as a celebration of our achievements. The event also marked the first showing of our new MedShare video, which can be viewed here.
